TODAY:We’re started out in the low to mid 70s this morning with a few showers and storms firing up along I-85 in East Alabama, from Valley down to Tuskegee. This afternoon, expect some sunshine with clouds building late afternoon along with more isolated showers and storms. Highs today will be in the low to mid 90s. Heat index values could make it up to that century mark again today. And in the Gulf, Bertha is becoming more and more likely with the area of low pressure in the northweastern Gulf. The National Hurricane Center is now giving it an 80% chance of developing into a tropical system.
THIS WEEK:We’ll be keeping an eye on the tropics as the week progresses, but a front arrives on Wednesday, and that should keep whatever develops in the Gulf south of the Chattahoochee Valley. Plus there are a couple of factors that will make strengthening of that system difficult as there is some dry air, and some northerly shear. Here in the Chattahoochee Valley, expect partly cloudy skies for much of the week with isolated afternoon storms Monday and Tuesday with a few bands from that Gulf system possibly reaching the area. Expect stray afternoon storms Wednesday through Friday, and scattered showers and storms for Saturday. Highs each day will be in the mid 90s with heat index values near or just above 100°.
