SELMA, Ala. (WSFA) – More than six decades after thousands of people marched from Selma to Montgomery demanding voting rights, one Selma family is fighting to make sure a piece of that history does not disappear.
The family of David Hall is working to preserve and restore his former home and property, known as Campsite No. 1, where marchers camped during the historic 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery march.
Hall’s granddaughter, Devine Hall McGuire, says the property’s aging home, barn and other structures are deteriorating, creating an urgent push to stabilize the site and eventually transform it into a place where future generations can experience its history…
