MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A Montgomery woman who was involved in a months-long mail theft and bank fraud scheme between 2022 and 2023 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson announced Monday.
Rashema Shackleford, 37, was sentenced after she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank and mail fraud on Sept. 18, 2025.
According to her plea agreement and other court documents, Shackelford participated in a scheme to steal checks out of other people’s mail and use those checks to commit fraudulent deposits and withdrawals between August 2022 and June 2023.
Shackleford allegedly worked with multiple people, including 32-year-old Laportia Webster and 48-year-old Otis Daniels to create counterfeit checks that they intended to deposit into various bank accounts…
