Statewide fire alert issued as drought worsens across Alabama

PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A statewide fire alert has been issued by the Alabama Forestry Commission as worsening drought conditions continue to create an increased risk of wildfires.

The alert warns that extremely dry conditions are making it easier for fires to start and harder to contain. Even a small spark can lead to dangerous fire behavior, especially in the woods and popular outdoor spaces.
