Municipalities claim hardships due to broadband construction

Representatives of four Lowndes County municipalities addressed their county commissioners at an April 13 meeting, claiming hardships caused by Hayneville Telephone Company broadband network construction. Hayneville, Gordonville, Mosses and Whitehall leaders requested help recouping money they were not prepared to spend, but utility representatives say they have made every attempt to work with municipal leaders before and during construction.

Mayors Orbuty Ozier, Jimmie Davis and Harold Bell joined White Hall representative Felicia Perry in asking commissioners to hear their concerns. They described incurring thousands of dollars to locate lines ahead of digging and to restore service breached during excavation.

Ozier said the Lowndes County Water Authority (LCWA) has already spent over $20,000 related to the project and added, “There have been times we’ve had 700 people without water [while we were] trying to keep up with Hayneville Telephone’s broadband project.”…
