NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Interstate 40 is back open after a truck carrying an oversized load hit the Broadway overpass on Sunday, closing the highway for at least three hours.
“There were two loads, one behind the other, that were trying to navigate downtown Nashville, and they were not able to pass safely,” TDOT Regional Communications Director Erin Ziegler said. “They had to actually back up, so we had to close the split.”

While that incident caused major delays, TDOT said incidents like this happen more often than drivers may realize. The agency’s traffic management center has tracked at least 10 bridge strikes in downtown Nashville since the start of last year.
