A certified registered nurse anesthetist at Erlanger Medical Center diverted fentanyl from surgical waste for months while the hospital’s artificial intelligence drug-monitoring system failed to detect multiple warning signs, according to a Tennessee Board of Nursing disciplinary order.
John A. Stevenson, employed through Anesthesiology Consultants Exchange, admitted to diverting fentanyl intended for disposal and using the drug for personal consumption between March and June 2025, according to a consent order approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing.
