TN cracks down on uninsured drivers, those in the country illegally during vehicle registration

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Registering a vehicle in Tennessee will soon require more paperwork and proof.

This year, lawmakers approved legislation mandating drivers provide proof of insurance or other financial responsibility when initially registering a vehicle in the state, and proof of legal status when registering a vehicle and renewing registration in the state.

“This is about fairness, this is about accountability, and this is about protecting responsible Tennesseans,” Rep. Tim Hicks (R-Gray) said of his bill that cracks down on uninsured drivers in Tennessee.
