NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Starting July 1, hemp and smoke shops across Tennessee will begin feeling the full effects of the state’s new hemp regulations, including a ban on most THCA products that some business owners say could threaten their livelihoods.
The changes come from legislation passed last year that gave the state’s alcoholic beverage regulator, the TN Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), authority over the hemp industry. Supporters argued the law was needed to bring oversight to a rapidly growing market they described as largely unregulated.
“It is the wild west out there. You do not know what you’re buying, and that is a problem,” House Majority Leader Rep. William Lamberth, (R-Portland) said.
