A Tennessee man is facing felony animal cruelty charges after authorities say he admitted killing, skinning, and planning to eat a dog in a case that has sparked outrage across East Tennessee.
According to a report from the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office cited by Tennessee station WVLT, deputies responded on May 20 to investigate allegations that a dog had been killed in Newport, Tennessee, located in Cocke County east of Knoxville. A witness reportedly contacted authorities after observing the animal being killed.
