Strong storms, damaging winds possible today across region

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook warning that strong to severe thunderstorms are likely across Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and portions of Western North Carolina today.

Forecasters said storms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening ahead of an approaching cold front. Damaging winds are the primary threat, but large hail and isolated flash flooding are also possible.

The outlook includes Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Washington, Unicoi and Hawkins counties, along with much of East Tennessee and surrounding areas…
