RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Rutherford County commissioner, who won his reelection bid after being accused of taking an opponent’s campaign sign, has pleaded guilty to theft.
Rutherford County Commissioner Romel McMurry was seeking reelection for District 19 when he surrendered to authorities after being named in a theft arrest warrant. McMurry allegedly took an opponent’s campaign sign, which belonged to candidate Pat Clements.

On Monday, Aug. 24, McMurry entered a conditional guilty plea to theft in General Sessions court. Officials said if he completes the terms of the agreement, which includes 16 hours of community service, all charges will be dismissed and expunged.
