Surfside Beach leaders push for more scrutiny after $543K cyberattack

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Town leaders on Tuesday made their first public comments since a late April cyberattack diverted $543,000 from a North Carolina-based contractor.

Officials said the incident remains under investigation, but the town’s core IT systems weren’t accessed.
