HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — The Horry County School Board is one step closer to having a new chairperson after Tuesday’s primaries.
With 100% of precincts reporting, unofficial results show Vice Chairperson Melanie Wellons defeating District 11 board representative Darrell Ricketts. Wellons earned just earned 60% of the vote, unofficially tallying 21,724 ballots to Ricketts’ 14,594 in the Republican primary after current Chairman David Cox decided not to run again.
The Horry County School Board also saw three other races during Tuesday’s Republican primary, with Meredith Kennedy taking the District 2 seat, earning over 68% of the vote — unofficially — over Thomas Vaughn.
