Update: Squirrel causes Myrtle Beach power outage, leaving thousands in the dark

Multiple power outages in The Market Common area of Myrtle Beach left more than 3,200 people without power Tuesday morning.

At first, it was unclear what caused the outage. But after crews with Santee Cooper responded to the area just after 9 a.m., they determined that a squirrel in the electrical substation had been the culprit, spokesperson Tracy Vreeland said.

Power was restored to The Market Common area around 10:30 a.m…
