MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Families, farmers, gardeners and anyone planning outdoor work across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee are still dealing with serious drought conditions after the latest U.S. Drought Monitor showed little to no local improvement.
SOUTH CAROLINA
The newest U.S. Drought Monitor map was released Thursday, June 18, with data valid as of Tuesday, June 16 at 8 a.m.
Across South Carolina, every part of the state remains at least abnormally dry.
Statewide, the latest update shows:
- 100% of South Carolina is abnormally dry.
- 97.16% is in moderate drought or worse
- 57.77% is in severe drought or worse
- 21.71% is in extreme drought or worse
- 0% is in exceptional drought
There was some improvement statewide in the severe drought category compared with last week, but locally, much of the Grand Strand and Pee Dee saw little to no change.
