SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Surfside Beach leaders have received a “confidential” report from insurance investigators as the town continues to navigate a “cybercrime” incident surrounding a $545,000 payment that never made it to a North Carolina contractor.
Mayor Robert Krouse said the report was received after a town council meeting on Tuesday.
The town issued the payment to Gastonia-based Wildcat Contractors in March, but the money never reached the company. Krouse has asserted that the town had followed its established payment procedures, sending the money based on an invoice received from a legitimate email address.
