GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. — The Georgetown and Horry County communities have more opportunities as more than 4,000 acres of marsh in Georgetown County will open to the public for recreational shellfish harvesting this fall.
The land is a part of Hobcaw Barony, a 16,000-acre research preserve owned by the Belle W. Baruch Foundation.
A new partnership between the foundation and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is making the access possible.
When the season opens
The season is expected to begin around Oct. 1, though the exact date depends on water temperatures.
