MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Humidity remains high along the coast this morning, but temperatures will be lower today thanks to widespread cloud cover and frequent rainfall. Flood Watches have been issued in Horry, Marion, Dillon, Florence, Scotland and Robeson counties as showers and thunderstorms become numerous, with periods of heavy rainfall expected throughout the day.
The beaches will be stormiest in the afternoon as the sea breeze collides with the stalled front. Higher humidity will lead to extreme rainfall rates, which at times will exceed 2″ per hour. This would lead to localized and even flash flooding. The Weather Prediction Center has the Grand Strand under a 40% chance of flooding and 15% in Florence and Lumberton.
