HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Homeowners are being urged to take steps to protect their property before a hurricane strikes, including covering windows and documenting belongings with photos and receipts.
Window protection options
Plywood purchased from a home improvement store is one option for covering windows, though installation can take time. Permanent storm shutters offer an alternative for homeowners seeking longer-lasting protection.
Greg Braukus, co-owner of MidAtlantic Storm Protection, said a removable panel system is among the most popular options available.
“You don’t want to have something flying around to even get an opportunity to get to the glass,” Braukus said. “Broken opening, water intrusion, air intrusion, big problem. So this is our most popular and really the reason why it’s most popular just because again it’s low profile and very lightweight.”
