GARDEN CITY, S.C. — Approximately 300 people gathered at Sara J’s on July 31 for the 2026 “Jaws on the Water” event. Spectators floated in the water on kayaks, paddle boards and inflatable tubes… Others watched from the lawn as the classic shark thriller played.
The Shark Week-themed event brought together children, teenagers and adults for a unique outdoor movie experience along the inlet at Sara J’s, located at 314 Atlantic Ave in Murrells Inlet. The film began at approximately 9:15 p.m., after the sky had grown dark enough for the movie to be shown on a projector.
Guests watching from land brought beach chairs, blankets and stools, creating a comfortable viewing area overlooking the water. Others chose a more adventurous way to experience the film, floating in kayaks, paddleboards, inflatable pool floats and pool noodles.
While many attendees focused on the movie, others used the evening as an opportunity to socialize, reconnect with friends and build community along the waterfront.
Tom Rotten of Garden City said his family attends the event each year and has enjoyed watching it become a tradition as his daughters have grown older…
