How family and famous hot dogs have built legacy of this Grand Strand restaurant

What you’re more likely to hear about though, is the family and people who have run Sam’s Corner for 50 years.

Sam Baker opened Sam’s Corner just steps away from the Garden City pier in 1976. The place was simple — the menu starred foot-long hot dogs served in a quaint eatery reminiscent of 1950s diners. Simple was the restaurant’s recipe for success.

Sam Baker died in 2013 following complications related to his diabetes. His children knew that now was their time to step up and help carry on the Grand Strand institution.
