Little River bar withdraws its appeal, consents to state’s suspension of alcohol license after deadly New Year’s Eve shooting

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WBTW) — A bar in Little River where two people were killed has withdrawn its appeal and has consented to the revocation of its alcohol permit and license.

According to the South Carolina Department of Revenue’s website, the Drinking Class bar’s license was revoked Monday. The bar is located in the Waterway Plaza near Highway 9 and Sea Mountain Highway.

Back in January, state authorities suspended the bar’s alcohol license after the deadly New Year’s Eve shooting.

James Myron Bellamy, 20, and Kron Fox, 19, died in the shooting, which also injured two other people. Witnesses told police they heard as many as 60 gunshots, which they initially thought were fireworks.

According to a court order, the bar, which opened in September 2022, had no prior violations of its alcohol license before the night of the shooting.

Owner Chester King Wheeler said the business initially attracted an older crowd but that more recently the crowd had become younger.

Wheeler also said that last November he became concerned about gang activity at the business. The order also showed that Horry County police were aware that gang members were frequenting the bar.
