King tides bring coastal flood chances with April’s new moon

(WPDE) — The new moon of April peaks on Sunday, April 27, at 3:31 p.m. Due to this new moon’s proximity to Earth, king tides are back along the Grand Strand.

King tides are higher than normal high tides that occur due to a new or full moon at perigee (the point where the moon is the closest to Earth within its orbit around Earth).

Low tides are lower than normal during king tides as well…
