HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Looking to take advantage of the region’s massive infusion of tourism revenue, Horry County leaders are closing in on a plan to ask for voters for an additional 1% sales tax assessment.
The administration subcommittee will talk about the proposal Monday morning ahead of a possible full council vote that would put the question on the county’s November ballot.
“In the long run, it could be a real win-win, not just a way to raise taxes,” councilman Tom Anderson said an April 2 budget retreat where the proposal was made first discussed. “If we can keep the ship going in the right direction and let the new development pay their way for coming into our county and let the tourists pay this 1%, I think it would be a great situation long-term for us.”…
