The Kendall County Health Department says it has found its first positive mosquito batch for West Nile virus this year.
A batch of mosquitoes collected this week in Yorkville tested positive for the virus, which is most common during hot, dry weather. Mosquitoes can spread West Nile virus after feeding on infected birds.
The health department says residents can reduce their risk by eliminating standing water around their homes, where mosquitoes lay eggs; avoiding time outdoors between dusk and dawn; using insect repellent; covering exposed skin; and making sure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens…
