A 52-year-old St. Charles man remained in critical condition after his e-bike collided with a box truck in Geneva on Friday afternoon, a crash that shut down a stretch of East Side Drive for hours while investigators mapped the scene. Police say the man was riding eastbound on High Street when he failed to stop or yield at a stop sign at East Side Drive and struck the folded ramp mounted on the rear of a southbound box truck as it entered the intersection.
The Geneva Police Department responded to the area of East Side Drive around 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Daily Herald, which reported the impact left the rider unconscious before he was rushed to a nearby hospital. As of Friday evening, Geneva police had not issued any traffic citations in connection with the crash, and neither the truck driver nor a passenger in the truck was injured, per the police account cited by Shaw Local.
Authorities shut down East Side Drive from Geneva Drive to Division Street so crash reconstruction teams could work the scene, and the road stayed closed for roughly four hours.
