A 14-year-old girl from Lombard and two 12-year-old girls from Addison have been charged with disorderly conduct by transmitting a threat to a school building, a Class 4 felony, after prosecutors say they created a video depicting a school shooting and a hand-drawn map of a junior high school’s floor plan. All three were placed on home detention with electronic monitoring at separate hearings, the most recent of which was Wednesday morning.
The charges were announced jointly by DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Police Chief Roy Selvik, according to CBS Chicago. Prosecutors said that on August 11, the two 12-year-old Addison girls created and shared a video showing cartoon figures walking through a school, pulling out rifles, shooting students in a hallway, and then taking their own lives, complete with drawn gunshots and screams. The video also contained a handwritten map labeling the school’s lunchroom, office, nurse’s station, and restroom as the floor plan for Indiana Trail Junior High School, per the outlet’s report.
Threats Escalated Over Weeks, Prosecutors Say
Weeks later, on August 29, the older girl from Lombard allegedly transmitted her own threat of violence, death, or bodily harm directed at people at Indiana Trail Junior High School, prosecutors said.
