Chicago Ridge man accused in fatal shooting, armed carjacking on Southwest Side

CHICAGO — A Chicago Ridge man is facing a slew of felony charges in connection with two separate crimes that unfolded on the city’s Southwest Side.

According to Chicago police, 18-year-old Alonzo Rodriguez-Medina is facing several felony charges including first-degree murder, armed robbery, aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, aggravated robbery, vehicular hijacking and unlawful vehicular invasion

45-year-old man struck, killed in Joliet

Police say the charges stem from Rodriguez-Medina’s alleged role in a deadly shooting in early December and an armed carjacking about a month and a half later.

Officers say just before 9 p.m. on Dec. 9, Rodriguez-Medina allegedly shot and killed a 32-year-old man while in the 6100 block of South Central Park Avenue in West Lawn, blocks away from the victim’s home.

Family members of the victim raised questions about CPD’s response following the shooting.
