Worker apparently electrocuted at NW suburban car dealership, fire department says

EAST DUNDEE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A man was seriously injured Wednesday while installing electric vehicle charging stations at a northwest suburban auto dealership.

Deputy Chief Joe Schwab of the East Dundee Fire Protection District said it happened at Al Piemonte Chevrolet on Dundee Avenue, south of Main Street. The worker might have suffered an electric shock, he said.

“There was an arc [flash] inside of an electrical panel that they were working on to install some EV battery chargers at the dealership. No one else was injured,” Schwab said.

Schwab noted the worker’s right arm and hand were burned.

Schwab said the man was awake and talking when he was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
