From backyard brews to gold

The journey from garage brewing experiments to international gold medals is usually reserved for beer documentaries and long-shot dreams. But for Hopsized Brewing Company, that story became reality when its Chargie Blonde Ale claimed gold at the World Beer Cup and became a moment that placed a Bonita Springs brewery among the world’s best.

The name “Chargie” was inspired during a trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands when the song ‘Come Closer’ by Wizkid featuring Drake came on with the lyric, “What would I do without you, my chargie?”

Curious about the meaning behind the word, co-owner Darlyn Victor asked a local resident what “chargie” meant in island slang. She explained it was a term similar to “my ride or die” or “my boo.”…
