Property tax relief petition launched by Tennessee House candidate gains traction in Davidson County

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Property taxes continue to be a major concern for many Davidson County residents, and one candidate for the Tennessee House is hoping to turn that frustration into legislative action.

Eva Romero, a Republican candidate challenging incumbent Rep. Shaundelle Brooks for Tennessee House District 60, has launched a petition calling on state lawmakers to cap annual residential and small business property tax increases at 2% and freeze residential property taxes for homeowners aged 65 and older.

More than 20,000 petition mailers were reportedly sent to voters across Donelson, Hermitage and Old Hickory. Residents can sign the petition online, where Romero says nearly 1,000 responses have already been submitted.

“Some of them are like, ‘Please do something now. I can’t pay my bill,’” Romero told News 2. “I’ve even received responses like, ‘I’m going to have to move out of Davidson County. I can’t afford to do this anymore.’”
