Snake knocks out power to thousands in North Nashville during heat wave

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A snake damaged a substation and knocked out power to more than 7,000 Nashville Electric Service customers in the Bordeaux area late Monday night, leaving residents without air conditioning while outdoor temperatures remained near 90 degrees.

The outage began around 9:30 p.m. after residents reported seeing a large flash in the distance before their lights, fans, and air conditioners stopped working. Power was restored roughly 30 minutes later.

‘Here we go again’

Tifinie Capehart said her family is used to losing power during storms but not during a heat wave. While they waited for crews to restore service, the family lit candles and gathered on the couch with battery powered fans.

“Here we go again,” Capehart said. “The power tends to go out over here.”…
