8-year-old girl hit by bullet during Nashville Fourth of July fireworks celebration

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – An 8-year-old girl was shot in downtown Nashville on Saturday night while waiting for the Fourth of July fireworks display to start, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Officers said the “falling celebratory gunfire” hit the girl’s back during the city’s celebrations for America’s 250th birthday. She was taken to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where she is expected to recover.

The 8-year-old and her family were standing near the stage at 1st Avenue South and Demonbreun Street around 9:20 p.m. when she felt pain in her back, according to police. She pulled the bullet fragment out of her back and gave it to her mother before being taken to the hospital…
