The City of Hendersonville and Hendersonville Parks and Recreation are welcoming a remarkable piece of American history to Old Hickory Lake as the historic LST-325 was to dock at Sanders Ferry Park from Sept. 23-29, 2026.
LST-325 is an operational World War II-era Landing Ship, Tank preserved in its World War II configuration. These vessels transported tanks, vehicles, equipment and troops directly onto beaches during amphibious operations. According to the LST Memorial group, LST-325 carried 59 vehicles, 30 officers and 396 enlisted men to Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day in 1944. Navy records indicate the ship made more than 40 crossings of the English Channel during the war, carrying thousands of men and countless pieces of equipment.
Today, LST-325 continues to operate and makes annual cruises to port cities throughout the United States, allowing visitors to walk aboard and experience this piece of living history…
