GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WBBJ) – Former Gibson County Sheriff Paul Thomas appeared in Gibson County Circuit Court for a status hearing regarding his ongoing state and federal legal battles on Tuesday, September 22, where defense attorneys signaled plans to challenge the charges and consolidate proceedings into a single jurisdiction.
During the hearing, attorneys addressed updates across Thomas’s docket, which includes federal charges as well as state indictments spanning both Gibson and Davidson counties.
Defense counsel indicated that they are still awaiting critical discovery materials from investigators. Once received, the defense stated it intends to file Motions to Dismiss the charges in both Gibson and Davidson county courts.
Additionally, defense attorneys said they would like to consolidate the separate Davidson and Gibson county cases. The defense said they would prefer all state proceedings be held in Gibson County and heard by a local Gibson County jury…
