NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Debate over a proposed medical cannabis bill use continued Thursday in Nashville as state lawmakers heard from law enforcement groups and other witnesses about whether Tennessee is ready to create a medical marijuana system.
Lawmakers listened to several law enforcement sources, including the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association and the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police.
Tennessee District Attorney Stephen Crump warned lawmakers against moving forward, citing his experience in the legal system and what he has seen in families affected by addiction.
“When I was an elected D.A. I would go to best practices conference, I would hear from prosecutors in Washington and Oregon and California, they would say to me, if you can convince them at all, don’t let them go down any path with this. Do I have science to go behind that? No sir I do not. But what I can tell you is, I have 33-years of practicing law and 33-years of watching families be torn apart by addiction we should never make it easier,” Crump says…
