NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville Davidson County Sheriff’s Office correctional officer was arrested Monday and charged with the assault of an inmate.

According to a release, 31-year-old Bryson Hayes was arrested in connection with a jail-related incident from December 2023.

Hayes, who has been employed by DCSO since April 2022, hit an inmate with a closed fist, threw him to the ground and placed the inmate in a chokehold when he was fully restrained, according to court documents.

A report from Hayes’ personnel file from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said on Dec. 1, Hayes and other corrections officers were attempting to move inmate, Franklin Caceres-Ortega, after he was being disruptive in his cell. According to the report, Caceres-Ortega spat on Hayes at least twice, including in the face, and witnesses said he called Hayes a racial slur. That’s when Hayes reportedly “violently shoved” two corrections officers to get to Caceres-Ortega, where he allegedly punched him, pushed him to the ground, and put him in a chokehold, according to the documents.
