TN Attorney General says state will work to protect children online

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — This week, federal lawmakers — led by U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) — continued the push to protect children with the Kids Online Safety Act. Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said he fully supports these efforts.

“It’s a great piece of bipartisan legislation,” said Skrmetti. “Everyone can come together to say our kids ought to be protected.”

He told News 2 the Volunteer State is capable of creating laws that will protecting children on social media.

“Tennessee and Colorado are the two lead states looking at social media’s effect on kids, and I think you can anticipate significant litigation going forward until we get the problem solved,” said Skrmetti.

According to Skrmetti, legislation is necessary because there is only so much parents can do to guard their children, and at some point, the government needs to step in.
