12-year-old Kentucky boy steals the show in Music City

MADISONVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — This Kentucky kid has big dreams, and thanks to a Grammy award-winning artist, they’re becoming a reality.

Myles Gee is a 12-year-old aspiring musician from Madisonville. His mother, Rebecca, recalls these aspirations budding from the time he was a baby.

“His first guitar was actually a coat hanger,” Rebecca said. “I was doing laundry, and he was just six or seven months old, and he picked up a coat hanger. He was strumming it, making sounds, and from then on everything was a guitar.”

Myles said that he’s entirely self-taught.

“I guess I just watched YouTube videos, learned the basic chords, and then I just went off that,” Myles said. His sound errs towards traditional country: “Probably ‘Waymore’s Blues.’ I do a lot of Hank Jr. and Elvis.”

This is something he has in common with many bluegrass pickers, including Grammy-award-winning Billy Strings .

For Christmas, Myles’ parents gifted him tickets to see Billy Strings perform at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville in February. Little did he know then that he’d be sharing the spotlight with Strings himself.
