Keith Thomas elected Zulu King 2027, beats out Cedric Richmond by 51 votes

In what some saw as an upset, Keith Thomas, band director at John F. Kennedy High School and longtime Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club member, was elected King Zulu 2027 in voting on Sunday. Thomas won over former U.S. House of Representative member Cedric Richmond.

Thomas received 350 votes, with Richmond trailing with 299.

When the results of the election were announced from the balcony of the Zulu clubhouse, the enormous crowd of members and others awaiting the news on North Broad Street erupted in cheers…
