St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrests New Orleans man after he fled in stolen vehicle

ARABI, La. (WVUE) – The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a New Orleans man after he fled from deputies in a stolen vehicle and struck law enforcement and civilian vehicles, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Jasmin Augustus, 27, of the 3100 block of Pauger Street in New Orleans, was booked with possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated criminal damage to property involving an SBSO unit, aggravated criminal damage to property involving a citizen’s vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce.

The incident

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11, Special Investigations Division agents located a silver Hyundai reported stolen out of Jefferson Parish in the parking lot of a business in the 6700 block of St. Claude Avenue in Arabi, Sheriff Pohlmann said.

When agents attempted to make contact with the driver, later identified as Augustus, he struck an SBSO unit before exiting the parking lot and fleeing westbound on St. Claude Avenue…
