NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — An Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office employee was fired and arrested on Monday, June 15 for alleged malfeasance in office.
According to OPSO, Imyri Johnson was seen in video footage conducting security rounds at the Orleans Justice Center when inmate Keymon Bush threw a cup of water through an open food hatch, striking Johnson in the face. After a verbale exchange with the inmate, Johnson allegedly reopened the food hatch and discharged her agency-issued OC spray into the cell occupied by Bush and another inmate.

OPSO officials say Johnson failed to follow standard operating procedure requiring jail staff to notify backup of the incident or secure inmates in their cell. Johnson allegedly returned to confront Bush and remove his cellmate before backup arrived. When the door was improperly opened, OPSO officials say Bush became involved in a physical altercation with several inmates who had gathered nearby.
