Ex-NOPD officer found guilty in phony art theft scheme

NEW ORLEANS — An ex-New Orleans police officer abused his position on the force to help stage a 2019 art theft, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced on Friday.

After a two-week trial, a federal jury found Christian Claus guilty of teaming up with local homeowner Fouad K. Zeton and a Nevada art appraiser, Michael Jon Schofield, to fake the robbery of several “valuable” paintings.
