Lauren Bacall’s whiskey and cigarettes voice seems a long way from 3700 St. Claude Ave. in the Bywater.
But that’s exactly what inspired the naming of Lowpoint, the coffee shop and cafe that originally opened five years ago on Poland Avenue and moved to its larger, more visible current location a few months back.
Bacall, whose visage is on the Lowpoint T-shirt, did a hilarious series of unintentionally campy ads for High Point decaffeinated coffee in the early 1980s. “It’s de-CAFF-einated and the flav-ah is marvelous!” she said in one ad.
