Since buying her circa 1940 four-bay cottage in Gretna’s Old Garden Park neighborhood in 2017, Grayson White has discovered a vibrant, engaged community in the midst of revitalization.
The discovery of a community making such a strong comeback was a surprise find, a bonus for the Winnsboro native. She moved to New Orleans in 2012 after years in Nashville, Tennessee, then Portland, Washington, to be closer to family, especially her aging grandparents in north Louisiana. After settling in Mid-City on Bayou St. John, she was eventually ready to buy a home and started looking for an affordable house with a decent-sized piece of land.
She found her stucco-covered house set behind a deep lawn on a double lot. It has an additional “dogleg” projection of land behind her neighbor’s home on the northern side of the property…
