A New Orleans doctor accused of trying to help his sister remove her ankle monitor before she was scheduled to stand trial in Jefferson Parish for manslaughter has pleaded guilty in the case, according to court records.
Kerry Sterling, 50, pleaded guilty Monday to being an accessory after the fact to manslaughter. Sterling entered the plea under Article 893, which allows defendants to expunge their conviction if they successfully complete the terms of their sentence.
Sterling’s sister, Kyana Traylor, 39, was scheduled to stand trial Monday in the death of 32-year-old George Singleton, her boyfriend’s mentally disabled brother.
But the trial date was canceled after the court ruled on Aug. 7 that Traylor was not mentally competent enough to proceed, Jefferson Parish court records said.
