When Tulane University students moved out this past May, they left behind more than just memories of their year in Tulane dorms. Tulane students left behind 92,400 pounds of reusable goods, mostly dorm decorations and storage.
The New York Times refers to these types of goods as “fast furniture” — mass-produced, inexpensive furniture that is easy to obtain and easy to abandon.
Tulane’s Trash to Treasure program started in 2014, and it is arguably one of the best systems for Tulane students to minimize their wasteful habits when it comes to fast-furniture dorm supplies. The program collected the items that students no longer wanted and kept them out of local landfills…
