Heavy morning downpours hammered parts of Southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi on Thursday, triggering localized flash flooding before conditions began tapering off by midday.
Communities across the Northshore bore the brunt of the earliest storms. Bogalusa, located in Washington Parish, recorded peak rainfall totals near 6 to 7 inches within a few short hours, inundating localized streets and low-lying roadways.
While heavy rain bands also swept through the New Orleans metro area and surrounding river parishes during the morning commute, radar imagery shows mostly dry conditions returning to the area as afternoon progresses. Only isolated showers remain lingering over St. John, St. James, and St. Charles parishes.
