A Jefferson Parish jury has convicted a New Orleans man of murder for the shooting death of a barbershop owner during an armed robbery.
On Friday, the jury found Raymond Lee guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Alonzo Wiley. The jury also convicted Lee of obstruction of justice and felon in possession of a firearm. Lee faces a mandatory life sentence.
Lee shot Wiley five times at a Harvey motel in the early morning hours of December 5, 2021. According to prosecutors, Wiley had been staying at that motel in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. Prosecutors told jurors that Wiley fought with and tried to escape during the armed robbery and before he was shot.
Lee will be formally sentenced on March 7.
